Michael J. Toohey, PhD, ABPP provides psychotherapy services for adults with concerns such as anger, anxiety, and depression. He is board certified in Behavioral & Cognitive Psychology. In addition to his clinical practice, he teaches psychological assessment and psychotherapy at Antioch University Seattle where he is active in both supervision and research. Dr. Toohey is also a supervisor in Rational Emotive and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from the Albert Ellis Institute. Dr. Toohey has supervised, lectured, and published internationally.
Dr. Toohey received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University where he specialized in anger management psychotherapy for four years. He also completed his Internship at the VA Maryland Health Care System/University of Maryland, Baltimore Internship Consortium where he worked with a number diverse, multicultural populations with low incomes and histories of trauma. He has also provided psychotherapy for adolescents and adults with a variety of psychological difficulties in an intensive outpatient program in CT.
Dr. Toohey has a number of publications on anger, aggression, and irritability. His current program includes examining cultural differences in the causes, experience, consequences, and treatment of irritability. Some of his publications include:
